ABCarlson Publishing is a small publishing firm owned and operated by Dr. A. B. Carlson, of Keene, NH.  The firm is dedicated new and niche authors, offering an alternative for those for whom traditional publishing is out of reach, but find the idea of self-publishing overwhelming or too time consuming. Although we offer some some design, editing, and printing products on a fee-based schedule, we only publish the works of authors that we believe will be profitable. If you simply want to pay someone to publish your book, please look elsewhere. But, if you think you have written a winner, by all means check us out.

Advice to authors: If you can find an agent and/or successfully market yourself to a traditional publisher, by all means–go for it! They have so many more connections and resources than we can offer; this is still the best way to get your book in the hands of others. However, for those who have their own marketing capability, who just don’t want to try to navigate the world of traditional publishing, or have had one too many “very encouraging rejection,” we offer an attractive option.

We offer a traditional book contract, paying the author royalties based on a percentage of cover price per book sold. The contract terms are author-friendly and competitive. Because we are a small house without deep contacts in the world of marketing, we only do very basic marketing. We expect our authors to do take on the additional work (and expense) of gaining further exposure, although with a marketing and advertising plan we help you to create.

We also offer a range of publishing-related products with fee-for-service pricing, based on the amount of work requested or required. The a la carte menu includes manuscript review, editing and preparation; copy-editing; generation of printer-ready pdfs (using the publishing-standard software InDesign); ebook generation from print book format; scanning, color editing, and formatting of artwork for printing; book, pamphlet, and brochure design; basic cover design; sourcing of printing for finished manuscripts; and other services as requested.

A sole proprietor, Dr. Carlson works with just 3 or 4 customers at a time.  Check out our available and forthcoming books, and also see some info about a few of our authors.
